The Food

Itinerary Overview
May 14 – May 16, 2026
May 14: Depart the US for Cairo.
May 15: Arrive at Cairo International Airport (airfare can be booked separately below) and take an included transfer to your luxury hotel for 4 nights. Afternoon visit to Islamic Cairo, where you will be able to explore Khan El Khalili, Cairo’s old bazaar. Next, head to Coptic Cairo to visit the Hanging Church, Church of St. Barbara, Church of Abu Serga. Meals: Lunch
May 16: Take a day trip from Cairo to Alexandria. First, visit Pompey’s Pillar, which was constructed in honor of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century. Visit the Catacombs and have lunch at a local restaurant in Alexandria. After lunch, proceed to the Qaitbay Citadel, which was built on the site of the ancient pharaohs (lighthouse) of Alexandria, and visit the Bibliotheca Alexandria. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
May 17 – May 19
May 17: After breakfast, you will be accompanied by your personal guide to Giza Plateau to visit the Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chefren, and Mykerinus, and the Famous Sphinx. After lunch, visit the New Egyptian Museum. Meals. Breakfast, Lunch
May 18: Visit the Step Pyramid of Zoser, the world’s oldest major stone structure, built in the 3rd Dynasty for King Djoser. Next, travel to Memphis and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
May 19: Transfer to Cairo Airport for your flight to Aswan. Embark on an afternoon Nubian Village Tour in Aswan, sailing on the Nile by a motorboat. This tour allows you to interact with a Nubian family and learn about their simple lifestyle, culture, and traditions. Overnight in Aswan. Meals: Breakfast
May 20 – May 22
May 20: Embark on your Nile River Cruise before lunch, then enjoy visiting the awesome Philae Temple, which is devoted to the two goddesses Isis and Hathor. Later, visit the Unfinished Obelisk, the largest known ancient obelisk. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
May 21: Sail to Kom Ombo to visit Kom Ombo Temple, a temple shared by two gods, Sobek and Haeroris. Sail to Edfu, with lunch on board. Take afternoon tea during your sailing to Edfu. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
May 22: Visit Horus Temple in Edfu, then sail to Luxor. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
May 23 – May 25
May 23: Disembark from your Nile cruise after breakfast. Visit the West Bank and take an excursion to the Royal Cemetery for 62 Pharaohs, the Valley of the Kings, the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon. Next, visit Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple. In the afternoon, take a 3.5-hour transfer to the Red Sea. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
May 24: Free time at the Red Sea. Optional activities include diving and snorkeling among the Red Sea coral reefs, as well as as windsurfing, sailing, and deep-sea fishing. Meals: Breakfast
May 25: Transfer to Hurghada airport for your departure from Egypt. If you are continuing on to Ghana, you will arrive at Accra International Airport and be transferred to your hotel. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
May 26 – May 28
May 26: Transfer to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom of Ghana. Visit the museum located at the Manhyia Palace, the residence of the chief of the Ashantis. Next, visit the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, a small museum with items relating to the Ashanti people and their royalty. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
May 27: Visit local Ashanti villages, where you will learn about kente weaving traditions, as well as Adinkra symbols. A famous traditional cloth, Kente is mostly used during important ceremonies such as weddings, festivals, and funerals. You will visit an ancient village known as Adanwomase that first introduced kente spinning and weaving. Here, you will have the opportunity to try your hand at weaving. Next, you will participate in a Sankofa (going back to your roots) naming ceremony. This ceremony will be attended by the local chief and elders of the nearby village. Each guest will be given a traditional name. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
May 28: Depart Kumasi and travel south to Cape Coast, the former capital city of Ghana, known for its winding streets, colonial architecture, and its UNESCO World Heritage slave castle. Before your arrival, you will stop in the town of Assin Manso on the banks of the Pra River. This river is the site where captive slaves traveling south to Cape Coast were made to take their last bath before entering the slave castles to wait for ships to the Americas. During your tour, you will have the chance to wash your hands and feet in the river while paying tribute to the millions of enslaved Africans who suffered and died during the transatlantic slave trade. From Assin Manso, you will head to Cape Coast where you will settle down in your beachside accommodation. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
May 29 – May 31
May 29: Visit St. George’s Castle in Elmina, the first and oldest European building in Sub-Saharan Africa. Built in 1482, this UNESCO World Heritage Site changed hands on several occasions throughout history. Here, you will have a chance to stand at the “point of no return,” the last place that captive slaves stood in Africa before boarding ships to the Americas. Later, you will tour Cape Coast Castle, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to a museum on slavery and European colonization. This castle was built by the Swedes in 1653, and while you are here, your castle guide will take you on a tour through the rooms formerly occupied by slaves bound for the New World. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
May 30: Return to Accra, the bustling capital of Ghana. You will begin your tour at the frenetic Makola Market, Accra’s biggest market. Next, you will visit the Ghana National Museum, which houses historical exhibits from Ghana’s pre-colonial times to the present. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. Your guide will teach you about the rise of Ghana’s independence leader and first president, Kwame Nkrumah. Finally, you will visit the Centre for National Culture for an opportunity to bargain for paintings, masks, and other crafts from around Ghana. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
May 31: Transfer to Accra International Airport for your flight home. Meals: Breakfast
