A new wine-focused travel company is inviting travelers to experience vineyards in a more intimate, culturally rich way. Founded by wine expert Julia Coney and luxury travel specialist Claire Soares, À Privé Journeys moves beyond transactional tastings, immersing small groups in a deeper journey into local food, culture, and traditions.

The idea for the company grew organically from the founders’ shared passions and long-standing friendship. Coney is widely respected in the wine world as a writer, speaker, and wine consultant for brands such as American Airlines. She has spent years helping to make wine more accessible and inclusive, spotlighting underrepresented regions and voices. Soares brings deep expertise in luxury travel. As a six-time Condé Nast Travel Expert, she has built a reputation for designing high-end group trips in more than 60 countries.

Together, they saw an opportunity to merge their experience and expertise and create a different kind of wine travel experience. Instead of moving from one tasting to the next, their trips immerse travelers in the people, traditions, and local culture that shape each destination. Of traditional wine tastings, Soares says, “What consistently stands out is how transactional most wine experiences feel. Tastings often feel isolated and disconnected from how people actually live with and enjoy wine.” She believes food should be an essential part of every tasting, allowing guests to understand a wine through the lens of local gastronomy. Coney agrees, adding, “Wine is communal and meant to be shared. It’s bigger than what’s in the glass, and À Privé understands this.”

Coney states that these are not “whirlwind tours” with packed itineraries aimed at seeing a laundry list of places. Instead, the experiences are intentionally paced, allowing guests to fully absorb each destination. Early itineraries focus on iconic wine destinations, where travelers can expect behind-the-scenes access that goes beyond standard tastings. Wellness elements are also included in the itineraries, adding balance to the indulgences through activities like spa treatments and movement sessions. Soares says, “In a culture that is often driven by constant productivity, we intentionally create space to slow down. When you are tasting wine properly, pairing it with food, and being present in the moment, you  experience wine differently.”

A key part of the experience is access. Leveraging Coney’s connections in the wine industry and Soares’s global travel network, À Privé Journeys provides access to experiences not often available to the general public. Of equal importance to Coney and Soares is cultivating a sense of community. Group sizes are kept relatively small so that travelers can connect with one another as easily as they connect with the destination. From accommodations to transportation to curated experiences, every detail is handled so that participants can focus entirely on the journey itself. That perspective resonates with a growing segment of travelers who are seeking more meaningful experiences. Rather than checking destinations off a list, they are looking to engage more deeply with the places they visit. Wine, with its inherent connection to land and tradition, offers a natural entry point.

À Privé Journeys reflects a growing demand for travel that feels more personal and purposeful. It’s not only about five-star accommodations, though those are certainly part of the experience. It’s about making sure that guests feel welcome, and that wine experiences are approachable, informative, and fun. Coney says, “These trips aren’t about wine culture per se; it’s bigger than that. I think that word is often overused. It is about exploring wine as part of your lifestyle. Wine is a product, but it’s also a lifestyle.”

  • For a multigenerational trip, ask the people traveling what would make moving around more comfortable, then send the property-specific questions. Is the entrance step-free? Does the elevator reach the room
  • The phrase cooking class can describe very different afternoons. You might roll dough at your own station, share preparation with a small group, or watch a chef demonstrate before tasting the results. Read for the part you will personally play, then ask the host to explain anything unclear. It also helps to confirm the teaching language, menu, and whether recipes come home with you. There is pleasure in both making and observing. Would you choose an apron on and hands in, or a seat with a clear view? #CookingClassTravel #CulinaryExperiences #FoodLoversTravel #TravelOver40 #TheTripWishList
  • A tree house and an observatory make an intriguing pair. At Primland in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Tree Houses overlook the Dan River Gorge, while the property’s observatory turns attention toward the night sky. One view invites you to look across the landscape; the other asks you to look up. For an autumn travel wish list, that is a memorable combination of place and perspective. Clear skies are never guaranteed, but the setting is worth discovering. Read the Virginia guide and save this idea: https://tripwishlist.com/fall-in-virginia/#VirginiaTravel #BlueRidgeMountains #TreeHouseStay #Stargazing #TheTripWishList
  • Travel smarter with the right apps! 📱 Your phone can do much more than translate a menu. Use travel apps for directions, currency conversion, language help, transportation, and local recommendations, all from your pocket.Need help planning your next adventure? • You do not need a perfect accent to make a courteous introduction. Prepare a small card with a greeting, a thank-you, and a few ways to ask for help understanding the reply. Have someone fluent check the wording, then practice saying it aloud before you travel. A written version is useful when a name or address is difficult to catch. Keep the card in your day bag so it is easy to show. Which language would you like to make your first card for? #travelphrases #languageconfidence #travelconnections #womenexploring #thetripwishlist
  • A souvenir can begin with a brush in your hand. Delft is known for its blue-and-white pottery, and Royal Delft offers painting workshops alongside its museum and traditional production story. A closer look at the craft, and the pleasure of making something connected to the place you are visiting. Add a wander along Delft’s canals, and you have a Dutch day trip with a creative center. Read the day-trip guide and save Delft for your next Netherlands visit: https://tripwishlist.com/day-trips-from-amsterdam/ #Delft #DelftBlue #CreativeTravel #NetherlandsTravel #TheTripWishList
  • Two rates for the same room can cover different things. Put the final totals side by side and read what each actually includes: breakfast, parking, any listed mandatory charges, and the cancellation terms. Mark an item
  • Picture arriving at your room and finding your evening essentials immediately. A small pouch can hold your toothbrush and usual personal-care items, with sleepwear and a charger packed beside it. Build the kit around the things you actually reach for at bedtime, then put it somewhere accessible in your bag. The useful part is the placement: you can get ready for the evening without opening every packing cube. Try laying out your own first-night kit on the bed before your next departure. #ArrivalEssentials #PackingIdeas #HotelArrival #WomenOver40Travel #TheTripWishList
  • An anniversary trip can still feel like a surprise when the practical commitments are agreed upon together. Confirm that your partner can travel on the dates before making purchases, then keep a smaller detail secret: a welcome note, a favorite meal, or an experience you know they would enjoy. That leaves room for delight without making someone rearrange commitments they never agreed to change. Planning a celebration of your own?
