Swiss International Airlines is the flagship carrier of Switzerland, serving more than 100 destinations from its hubs, Geneva and Zurich. During my first flight with the airline, I had the opportunity to experience their business class service on a journey from Zurich to Washington-Dulles Airport. Here’s an overview of my experience.
Swiss Airlines Business Class Lounge at Zurich International Airport
The Swiss Airlines business class lounge in Terminal E at Zurich Airport is nothing short of exceptional. This bright and clean space offers a comfortable pre-flight experience. The lounge has multiple stations providing light food, snacks, and beverages, as well as a quiet room, equipped with reclined lounge chairs and curtains.

Aircraft Fleet, Amenities, and Crew Service
Swiss Airlines operates the nine-hour flight from Zurich to Washington-Dulles using the Airbus 330-300 aircraft. Upon boarding, business class passengers are warmly welcomed with a choice of champagne or sparkling elderflower juice.
Each seat comes with headphones and amenity kits with all the standard business-class items like lotion and eye masks. Throughout the journey, business class passengers can request exquisite Swiss chocolates. The flight crew was very attentive and professional. Passengers can enjoy an array of in-flight entertainment options on high-resolution screens during the flight.

Design, Layout, and Appearance
The airplane’s configuration is 1-2-1, followed by 2-2-2. A window seat in a 1-2-1 layout offers an extraordinary level of privacy and comfort, making it ideal for solo travelers. However, window seats in a 2-2-2 row can feel more confined compared to other business-class products.
While the cabin layout may vary in comfort, it’s noticeable that the seat finishes show visible wear and tear and need a significant update. Despite this, the seats and surfaces are well-maintained and clean.
The bathrooms in business class are kept in excellent condition throughout the flight. Overall, the cleanliness and maintenance standards are commendable, even if the decor could benefit from a refresh.

Seat Comfort and Recline
Swiss Airlines’ business class offers ergonomically designed seats that transform into fully flat beds. While the seat cushions may be a bit stiff and not the most comfortable compared to some competitors, they are adequate for rest and relaxation. The seats are spacious and allow you to unwind during the flight.

Meals Onboard Swiss Airlines Business Class
The highlight of the Swiss Airlines business class flight was undoubtedly the dining experience, which offered an array of gourmet meals expertly paired with fine wines. The meal service began with an appetizing starter of marinated salmon trout with apple, cucumber, onion relish, and a wild herb salad drizzled with French dressing.
For the main course, I selected the chicken breast with a rich porcini mushroom sauce, creamy mashed polenta, and fresh vegetables. The meal concluded on a high note with a decadent chestnut cake with whipped cream and calamansi gel.

Overall Impression of Swiss Airlines Business Class
I enjoyed my experience in Swiss Airlines business class and would fly this product again because, in general, business class beats economy class every time. And if flying business class is something you value, go for it. However, make sure to compare prices with other airlines, as nonstop flights like this one tend to cost more.
Without a doubt, business class offers a level of comfort and service that far surpasses economy class. If you value a more luxurious flying experience, business class with Swiss Airlines is still a great choice despite the cosmetic improvements needed.
However, comparing prices with other airlines is important, as nonstop flights like this one from Zurich to Washington-Dulles can be more expensive. Shopping around ensures you get the best value for your money.
