I can hardly believe how fast 2018 has flown by!  I can definitely say that I picked some interesting places to travel in 2018, and I’m ready to see what the new year holds!

One thing that stuck with me in 2018 is the following phrase:

Image result for day one or one day you decide

And this phrase has been my words to live by as it relates to travel and life.

I’ve always considered travel to be an informal classroom, a place for experiential learning.  So, it’s great to see and learn about places I’ve always read about or never read about!

2018 has been a truly amazing year, and it’s not over yet!  This year, I visited numerous countries from Nicaragua to Lithuania.  Here’s a recap of some of my favorite experiences:

Zip Lining in Costa Rica

Soaring through the treetops in Arenal was so exciting, and the views from above were awesome, too!  Costa Rica should be on everyone’s travel wish list!

Hanging out in Playa Samara

It was here in Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula that I contemplated becoming a beach bum. The Nicoya Peninsula is one of five Blue Zones in the world.  Pura vida!

Watching lava flow

It was really neat to visit the Masaya Volcano in Granada, Nicaragua at night.  The crackling sound of lava flowing was just as cool as the sight of it.  Check out my post, 5 Things You Must Do In Granada, Nicaragua.

Biking in Copenhagen

With more bikes than cars, Copenhagen has a bike culture that rivals Amsterdam.  It’s an intense place to bike, but I thought I held my own!  Watch my brief video here.

Snowmobiling in Iceland

There are many exciting outdoor things to do in Iceland.  Snowmobiling on Iceland’s second largest glacier can only be described as thrilling.  At first, I was a bit uneasy but half-way through, I put pedal to the metal!

Relaxing in the Blue Lagoon

The warm waters of Iceland’s famed lagoon were so fabulous, I didn’t want to leave!  You actually do stay in for hours, because the temperatures when you get out of the lagoon are a bit of a shock, and the waters are so soothing.  Lava, the onsite restaurant. is really good, and I would love to go back and stay in the new Retreat Hotel.

Seeing an original Swedish warship

I enjoyed visiting the Vasa Museum in Stockholm to see this wooden ship built in the 1600s.  It sunk shortly after embarkment and has been pulled from the sea and beautifully restored.

Walking in Riga

Riga, Latvia has the highest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings in the world with more than 1/3 of buildings in the city center incorporating this decorative architectural style.  Watch my short video of this beautiful city.

Roaming the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania

The Hill of Crosses is a place of religious pilgrimage and remembrance that also symbolizes Lithuania’s historical defiance against foreign invaders.  Hundreds of thousands of crosses have been planted by people from around the world.

Enjoying the beaches of San Juan

I have always loved Puerto Rico, and it was good to return post-hurricane to support the local economy.  The island is on the mend, and it’s one of the best value places to go!

Exploring Medellin

Medellin is a modern and vibrant city with incredible street art and public art spaces.  Check out my post on Why You Should Visit Medellin!

Visiting Palenque

Palenque, the first freed slave settlement in the Americas, was an intriguing place to visit.  I enjoyed learning about Afro-Colombian history, including the importance of hair styles, which escaped slave women would use to send messages and weave the paths to freedom.

  • A friends
  • Some travel moments deserve a proper seat and an unhurried cup of tea. At Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, afternoon tea at Fairview Restaurant brings together scones, delicate sandwiches and loose-leaf tea with a view of the lake. The pleasure is in the details: the china, the conversation and the mountain setting just beyond the window. It is an inviting idea for anyone who enjoys making a meal part of the memory. Explore the Banff guide and save this table for your list: https://tripwishlist.com/where-to-eat-in-banff/ #LakeLouise #BanffTravel #AfternoonTea #CanadianRockies #TheTripWishList
  • Planning a trip? Make sure you’re not making these common travel mistakes.Your dream getaway deserves more than rushed decisions and last-minute stress. From choosing the right destinations to creating an experience you’ll truly enjoy, the right planning makes all the difference. #travelplanning #womenover40 #travelbetter #dreamtrip #womentravel #travelinspiration #wanderlust #thetripwishlist
  • The person making your coffee, weaving a textile, or arranging flowers has a day of their own underway. If you would like a portrait, begin with a greeting and explain what you are asking for. Be equally clear if you hope to share the image publicly. A warm exchange can happen with the camera tucked away, too. Respect the answer without bargaining, thank them for their time, and let the interaction end comfortably. What travel conversation has stayed with you long after the trip? #RespectfulTravel #TravelPhotography #CulturalTravel #WomenTravelers #TheTripWishList
  • A mother-daughter getaway or a trip with friends can call for two bedrooms with an easy connection between them. Before you reserve, ask about the actual door. Hotel terminology varies, and a note asking for nearby rooms may leave the arrangement subject to availability. Request a clear answer about whether the internal connection is confirmed, then check the bed configuration for both rooms. Send the question on slide four to the person handling your reservation so everyone is picturing the same setup. #HotelRoomTips #MotherDaughterTravel #TravelOver40 #WomenWhoTravel #TheTripWishList
  • Chicago gives you a different city from every rooftop. At Cindy’s, the view opens toward Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. LondonHouse puts the Chicago River in the frame. Chateau Carbide pairs its outlook with the character of the Art Deco Carbide and Carbon Building. That makes the evening about more than what is in your glass: it is a chance to notice the city’s architecture from a new angle. Which view would you stay over? Read the rooftop guide and save your favorite: https://tripwishlist.com/rooftop-bars-in-chicago#ChicagoTravel #ChicagoArchitecture #RooftopViews #WomenWhoTravel #TheTripWishList
  • Screenshots are inspiration. They are not an itinerary. If your camera roll is full of hotels, restaurants, cities, beaches, and “one day” trips, the next step is not saving more. It’s sorting those ideas into: 1. what fits your life now 2. what belongs on a future list 3. what deserves a real planThat decision alone can turn travel from something you endlessly research into something you actually do.Want the framework I use to make that process simpler? • A dream trip starts as a collection of ideas.A bookable trip needs structure.Which destination? How many days? What is worth prioritizing? Where should you stay? What needs to be booked first? How much breathing room does the itinerary need? That’s the gap The Bespoke Travel Method is designed to close, so you can stop circling the same ideas and start building a trip you can confidently book.Comment LEARN, and I’ll point you to the next step.#TravelItinerary #LuxuryTravel #TravelPlanning #TravelOver40 #WomenWhoTravel #BucketListTravel #TravelAdvisor #PlanYourTrip #TheTripWishList
  • Alaska is a perfect example of why timing matters.Wildlife, daylight, road-trip conditions, hiking, kayaking, crowds, and even the kind of scenery you experience can shift depending on when you go.If Alaska is on your list, don’t start by choosing a hotel. Start by choosing the version of Alaska you want to experience.Read the full guide: https://tripwishlist.com/best-time-to-visit-alaska/Save this for future Alaska planning.#AlaskaTravel #BucketListTravel #AdventureTravel #TravelOver40 #WomenWhoTravel #LuxuryTravel #TravelPlanning #AlaskaTrip #TheTripWishList
