As the U.S. prepares to mark the 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, Washington, D.C. is gearing up for one of the most significant celebrations in the nation’s history. Across the capital, luxury hotels, restaurants and cultural institutions are unveiling exclusive and experiential packages designed to mark the semiquincentennial anniversary. From rooftop fireworks celebrations and lavish presidential suites to citywide culinary programming exploring the meaning of American cuisine, visitors will find no shortage of ways to experience America250 in the capital city.
In addition to celebratory events planned at iconic attractions, such as the National Mall and the National Archives, Washington’s culinary scene will take center stage during the anniversary celebrations through Eat250: America at the Table, a citywide culinary and cultural initiative running from June 14 through June 28, 2026. Created in partnership with the Executive Office of Mayor Muriel Bowser, the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, and TAA PR, the program explores the ways migration, tradition and cultural exchange continue to shape American cuisine. “Washington, D.C. has always been a city where cultures, traditions and people from across the country and around the world come together, and that is reflected in so many aspects of our life in D.C., especially in our food,” says D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser via press release.
More than 100 restaurants across the Washington metropolitan area will participate with special menus, chef collaborations, public conversations and neighborhood events. Major programming will include gatherings in Union Market District along with culinary experiences throughout the city. The initiative highlights dishes and culinary traditions that reflect America’s diversity and evolution, from Chinese soul food developed in the segregated South to Ethiopian-inspired pizza and Japanese pasta.
